Galactic Conquest
Foreword
Galactic Conquest started in the early 2000s as a tabletop spaceship combat simulator. After a few years of playtesting the simulator, we moved on.
Because life isn’t painful enough, and the RPG market is so flush with cash. We wrote the role-playing game and playtested it to death. For reasons of jobs, bouts of unemployment, weddings, a funeral, and life in general, Galactic Conquest has now waited in the trunk for over fifteen years.
One of the things I enjoyed about game development was writing stories to explain the game rules. Lore that exists as part of the in-universe game but makes no sense on the surface.
Why are starships divided into size classes? Well, there is a naval arms treaty that limits the volume. Also, there are hyperspace acceleration gates for FTL travel. Your ship needs to be a standard size for intermodal compatibility. Government overreach standardizes starship technology. When a tramp freighter shitbox shows up on the flight deck, there is a risk of a lithium and exotic-metals fire. And it’s mixed with plasma fuel that can burn in the hard vacuum of space. This is why there are starship-size classes.
So, here I am with the latest AI technology. A trunk full of written stories in need of a few hours’ work. Editing is faster than writing but not as fun.
“Talk about intermodal and trade policy around the ladies. You’ll score.”

Blurb:
Galactic Conquest is set a thousand years in the future. Humanity has escaped the tyranny of the Milky Way to settle in the greater universe. They discovered a spiral galaxy teeming with life and the Great Game of Imperial Politics — a time when Realpolitik and the Dark Forest meet. The humans founded the world of Fradaj on the edge of the galactic hinterland.
Fradajan space finds itself pinned between two great and expanding empires and the free republics of the galaxy known as the Core States. And ever in the darkness spin-ward, the Beatalar swarms wait to consume all.
This is the story of the Fradajan Navy, 1st Lieutenant Kevin Donovan, and the crew of Gunboat 137. As galactic tensions rise, Gunboat 137 has received Orders to leave for the colony world of Minneapolis-St. Paul. A binary star system on the edge of the Beatalar border.
Assigned to the local Riverine Task Force, Gunboat 137 will patrol the space lanes and hunt pirates from the edge of the solar corona to the terraforming swamp forests of Minneapolis-3 to the deeps of interstellar space between the stars.
